Netanyahu’s Health in Question as He Undergoes Prostate Surgery

Netanyahu to Undergo Prostate Surgery Amid Ongoing Gaza Conflict

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to undergo surgery to remove his prostate after being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, his office announced. The 75-year-old leader is expected to be hospitalized on Sunday.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Netanyahu underwent an examination at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem last Wednesday, where doctors discovered an infection in his urinary tract resulting from a benign enlargement of the prostate.

This is not Netanyahu’s first health issue. Earlier this year, he had surgery for a hernia, and last year, he underwent surgery to have a pacemaker installed after suffering a “transient heart block.” The incident led to speculation among many in Israel about the health of the prime minister and the extent to which details had been hidden from the public.

The announcement comes amid ongoing conflict in Gaza, where Israel has been at war with Hamas for over 14 months. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 45,400 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children, and injured over 108,000 others, according to the Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry.

The Israeli military has continued to carry out operations in Gaza, including a recent raid on one of the last functioning hospitals in northern Gaza, where the director was arrested.

Netanyahu’s health issues have raised concerns about his ability to lead the country during this critical period. However, his office has assured the public that the surgery is routine and that he is expected to make a full recovery.

The prime minister’s hospitalization is likely to spark renewed debate about his health and its implications for Israeli politics.
