Former President Thabo Mbeki has called on the government to initiate an inclusive national dialogue, emphasizing the need for South Africans to take charge of their destiny. Addressing the South African Communist Party (SACP) conference in Boksburg, Mbeki highlighted the country’s pressing issues, including massive unemployment, poverty, and lawlessness.
Mbeki stressed that this national dialogue is crucial, as it goes beyond political formations and involves the people directly. He drew parallels with the Codesa negotiations in 1990, which were primarily a political formation, whereas this dialogue aims to bring together political formations and the people.
In his vision for nation-building, Mbeki emphasized the importance of collective effort and inclusivity. He encouraged South Africans to work together to address the country’s challenges and shape its future. By doing so, Mbeki believes that South Africa can overcome its current difficulties and build a brighter future for all its citizens.
